National Get Outdoors Day Celebrated at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve

Landscape Structures and Three Rivers Park District welcomed nearly 300 visitors

Delano, Minn. (June 17, 2010) – Rain and cool temperatures didn’t keep nearly 300 community members from enjoying the community picnic hosted by Landscape Structures and Three Rivers Park District at the Lake Rebecca Park Reserve in Rockford, Minn. The event was held on Thursday, June 10, in celebration of Get Outdoors Day (GO Day), a national event aimed at reconnecting youth to the great outdoors.

Community members were served hotdogs, chips, lemonade and ice cream at the picnic shelters, and many families ventured over to climb on and around the Big Woods-themed playground. Others that attended took advantage of the free paddleboat rides on Lake Rebecca courtesy of Three Rivers Park District. A few of the GO Day event attendees even dropped a line in the water to try their luck at fishing. During the event, a local Girl Scout Cadet troop was on-site to help promote GO Day. The mounted patrol also made an appearance and interacted with attendees.

There were nearly 100 official events hosted throughout the country that celebrated GO Day 2010. For more information on reconnecting kids with nature, visit childrenandnature.org.
