Farmers Branch, Texas, is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with a population of more than 27,500. After being approached in 2003 by a group of local riders, Robin Edwards, park maintenance supervisor, and the Farmers Branch Park and Recreation Board began taking steps to develop a community skatepark.
The Board reviewed many equipment options, and determined that modular was the most cost effective and could be quickly installed. They chose Skatewave® modular skatepark systems because of its quality and the local service they would receive from their local representative, Recreation Consultants of Texas.
After the Board chose Skatewave as the manufacturer, they then met to discuss the budget and determine the best location for the new skatepark. Once the project had progressed further and initial designs were in place, Robin and the Board held a community meeting so that they could keep citizens informed. They shared project details as well as the project timeline with everyone, and asked for input from community members.
The Farmers Branch Recreation Center Skatepark was six years in the making, and since its installation, has been a huge hit with the local community. The riders love it, and continue to use the facility. Best of all, the destination has been popular with everyone—beginners to more advanced riders.
